I am beyond honoured to be nominated for the Liebster Blog Award. The award is basically a way to recognize new bloggers. Cassandra at Coffee + Poppies was kind enough to nominate me. Her blog is beautiful so be sure to check it out! Cassandra has 11 questions for me that I will answer, then I’ll explain the rules and nominate other blogs!
It feels like fall, but I know in my heart that is truly is winter now. My family back in Canada is switching to winter tires and going sledding, so I guess winter has finally begun. Meanwhile here, the leaves are just changing and it’s just starting to dip below freezing.
But I’m ready for winter. I love it. I love it more now that I don’t live in a place that has 5 feet of snow and consistently freezing temperatures. Winter in New Mexico has been my favourite winter of anywhere that I have lived. It’s not stupid cold, but it’s also cold enough to bundle up. So for the coming of the new season, I’ve come up with 10 more things that make me happy.
This is a letter for all the wonderful husbands out there, especially mine. For my #AttitudeOfGratitude, which is a challenge that I have given myself I’m trying to be grateful for everything that God has given to me and all the wonderful things in my life. You can read about it here.
I’ve been pretty radio silent for the last 3 weeks or so, and that’s because we moved! It’s been a very exciting but challenging time. All free time is taken up by packing and cleaning and getting everything ready. My husband works crazy shifts so he had to work his butt off at work and come home just to do the same, which is no fun at all. He’s been a rockstar when I’ve been a mess.
This got me thinking about how sometimes, we take for granted the people around us. It is so easy to just focus on the negative rather than see all the good around us.
So without further ado…
So here’s the deal, we bought a house (if you missed the memo, I wrote about it here).
Said house has a wood burning stove. Which is awesome. So excited about it.
The wood burning stove posed a problem: we need wood to burn in the stove.
I told my friend that we needed to buy some wood and he told me, “You don’t buy wood, you just cut it down.”
I mean, in my head I knew that people cut down wood. Like lumberjacks… they exist.
But me?! I’m no lumberjack. I have the scrawniest arms you’ve ever seen. I can’t lift wood, let alone cut the trees down!
We own a house.
As I write the words I don’t think I truly believe them. Is this real life? Is this some fantasy that people in their 20s can actually own a house?
It also has a fair amount of fear associated with it. If the roof leaks, we won’t be calling the landlord. If something drastic happens in life, we can’t just up and leave.
But what’s life without a little risk?
Or a lot of risk.
The house buying process was immensely fun. We asked our realtor approximately 3,000,000 questions about the whole house buying process and we spent 6 weeks looking at different houses, deciding if we needed to raise our price range and decide what was truly important to us in a home. That last one was the most interesting.
I have a chronic problem: I want to be good at everything…. without having to try.
The first part seems fair, doesn’t everyone want to be good at everything?
It’s the without trying part that gets me. I want to be good at it all. Nevermind that people spend massive amounts of time practising and perfecting their craft, I want to be good at it immediately!
As you can imagine, this has gotten me really far in life.
- I have a ukelele that I know about 4 chords for.
- I have 20 pounds of alpaca fur that I was going to spin into yarn, that I bought a year ago. None of which has magically turned into yarn.
- I have a shoebox full of every kind of makeup imaginable, I know how to use none of it.
Sometimes, it’s nice to just have a date night in. Husband and I don’t have any kids right now, so we can stay inside and it still feels like a date. Having a game night just the two of us or with a few friends is a really great way to have some cheap fun. We are constantly on the search for games that just the two of us can play since we love having game nights. Here are a few of our favourite date night games.
Y’all, I did long distance for 3 years, I have gone between living in Canada and the US. Currently, I live in New Mexico, my in-laws are in California, and my parents are in Canada. I have flown a lot.
In 2 days, I’ll be on a plane to go back to Canada, for a wedding and some family time. I don’t even think it’s hit me that I’m going back to my “Motherland.”
Obviously, it can be daunting to pack for a big trip. Females want to pack an outfit for every day and have it all planned out. They pack too many clothes, really too much of everything, and they are forced to pay for their luggage.
Anyone else out there have the back to school blues?
Usually, by the time that August/September comes around, I’m ready to start school. I’m excited to get back into it. All of that is usually squashed the first day of school, but at least before school starts, I’m excited.
This year, I’m not feeling it. I’m dreading going to my classes and all of the reading that I’m going to have to do. I do all of my school online so I read a lot. All of my classes are primarily reading. What the heck. And I even like reading, but every day I reach a point where I just can’t read anymore and I’ll be reading the words and comprehending nothing.
Sometimes, I just feel… happy! And I’m not going to apologise for it. I like to consider myself a pretty happy person. My husband will attest to the fact that when I get excited,
I get very excited.
As summer is fixing to wrap up, I thought I would compile a list of the best parts of summer, and enjoy them as much as I can before this season comes to a close.
There are different things that will trigger this happiness inside of me. If I’m having a bad day, or even just a mediocre day, some of these things will just brighten up my life. And I hope that some of these things brighten up your day or give you ideas for what brings happiness to your life!
My name is Jacey! I love Jesus, crochet, and coffee (in that order).
