I was talking to Husband today about how weird it is that there are people that are younger than me who are successful and have careers being famous. Whenever I talk to my best friend since high school we talk about how many years its been since we graduated high school, and then proceed to stare at each other in disbelief.
“Has it really been 6 years?!?”
When you’re a kid, you can’t wait to be an adult, and when you’re a kid, you wish you could go back to being a kid.
I distinctly remember being younger and my mom telling me….
“There’s something good about every age.”
Were truer words ever spoken? Every age has something good about it, and some things that royally stink. When you’re an adult, no one pays your bills, and you have to do the dishes constantly, but on the other hand, no one is telling you what time to come home and you are truly in control of what happens in your life.
So I have taken a pledge, from this point forward I will stop saying…
“Oh my gosh I’m so old.”
“I can’t believe that was so long ago.”
“Time needs to slow down!”
Because those things aren’t helpful, they are just a passive form of complaining.
Here’s the thing, I’m going to start being excited to be in my 40s. In my 40s I’ll be stable, I will have been married for so long that Husband and I can read each others mind, if we have children they will be teenagers and totally fun to hang out with, and my house will be properly decorated (yes, I am planning on it taking me 16 years to decorate my house).
Why do we stop being excited for the future when we get to a certain age.
There’s something good about every age.
Find the something good about the age you’re at, and find things to look forward to in your future age.
P.S. I know what you’re thinking “Jacey, you’re 23. You aren’t even old!” I recently just decided to stop dreading the future, because it meant that I won’t be as young anymore, and instead embrace my age, trusting that God has big plans for my future and I can’t wait to see what they are.
