The word summer just sounds happy, doesn’t it?
It should be a joyous time of freedom from the mundane into a new normal.
But…. sometimes I find myself enjoying that “freedom” by sitting in front of the TV and computer for endless hours and doing absolutely nothing
So here is my list of activities that I am doing this summer in order to live it up to the fullest!
1. Road trip!
My husband loves to travel and explore. He works a crazy schedule but ends up with 4 or 5 days off at a time. On those days off we try to go somewhere, which is usually between 3-6 hours away. Summer road trips just seems more special somehow. The drive there is usually beautiful, it’s fun to explore a new place. It’s even more fun with friends, so if you can make that happen do it up!
2. Find out the activities that your city/town is putting on
Or a town that is near you. Maybe where I live is just a special place, but it seems like there is an activity going on almost every weekend. Next weekend my husband and I are going to a Mac and Cheese festival. It’s super random and the only reason we are going is because we won free tickets. I’m super excited to go because I know that it’s something we wouldn’t do any other time of year and who doesn’t love free Mac and Cheese!?!
Check out what your city puts on and participate! It builds community and most of the time they are pretty cost effective. Invite your friends to meet you there and enjoy!
3. Go to the Library
I worked in a library for a year, so I have a special place in my heart for libraries. Most of the time libraries are really good putting on summer programs for kids, and often they have activities for adults too! Even just being around the books and the atmosphere is good for the soul me thinks 🙂
The other day I walked into the library and they had a concert going on in the main area. I was very surprised but what a fun idea! Sometimes there are all sorts of activities going on that we don’t even know about.
4. Go for a walk
Summer nights have a distinct smell to them, don’t they? The fresh crisp air just surrounds you. I need to do better at going for walks with my husband and just being outside. Sometimes those are the best times to talk and get deep with friends.
5. Summer Crochet
Most people, myself included, usually consider crocheting to be a winter activity. I use to put the hook down for the summer, but I found that I missed it too much. There are so many different options for you to create in the summer that won’t get you too hot. Here’s a tip: lots of cotton yarn
Bonus Activity: Baking
Again, this may be seen as a winter activity but I love summer baking. There is so much fresh fruit to work with! People often appreciate baking no matter what time of year it is. I keep an eye out for no bake recipes too, since sometimes it is too dang hot for me to turn on the oven unless it 6 AM, and I rarely find myself conscious at that time.
If you know me at all you know that I’m a little obsessed with The Great British Baking Show. For my birthday I got Paul Hollywood’s How to Bake cookbook, and I can’t wait to try out all of these recipes. Have a look!
Those are my ideas for the summer! What do you like to do in the summer?
